**The Final Haircut of the Year**

For your last mow of the season, we recommend lowering your blade slightly, to about 2 or 2.5 inches. After a summer of telling homeowners in Huntington, Lake Grove, and Holbrook to keep the grass high, the rules change for winter.

**Preventing Winter Pests**

Long grass is prone to matting under the weight of the snow. When grass mats down, it creates the perfect environment for snow mold and voles. Cutting it a bit shorter for winter keeps the lawn tight and upright.

Just be sure to wait until the grass has officially stopped growing for the year before taking that final pass. It's the best way to make sure your lawn rests easy through its long winter nap.
